Clear Aligners

Clear Aligners

Crooked teeth aren’t just a cosmetic issue that bothers you in photos. Misaligned teeth can create cleaning challenges that lead to cavities and gum disease, cause uneven wear that damages your enamel, and even contribute to jaw pain or headaches. Traditional braces work, but not everyone wants a mouth full of metal brackets and wires for a year or more. Clear aligners in Dallas offer an alternative that straightens your teeth without advertising your orthodontic treatment to everyone you meet.

At Travis Aduddell, DDS, clear aligner treatment focuses on giving you straighter teeth through a process that fits into your actual life. You get results without the dietary restrictions, cleaning hassles, and visibility that come with conventional braces.

How Clear Aligners Actually Work

Clear aligners are custom-made trays that fit snugly over your teeth and gradually shift them into better alignment. You wear each set of aligners for about one to two weeks before switching to the next set in the sequence. Each new tray moves your teeth slightly closer to their final positions, building on the progress from the previous set.

The treatment starts with digital scans or impressions of your teeth. These create a 3D model that maps out exactly how your teeth need to move and in what order. This planning phase is crucial because it determines how many aligners you’ll need and how long your treatment will take. Most cases require anywhere from 12 to 48 sets of aligners, depending on how much correction your teeth need.

Unlike braces that stay cemented to your teeth throughout treatment, you remove clear aligners when you eat and brush your teeth. This removability is one of the biggest advantages, though it also requires discipline—aligners only work if you actually wear them at least 20 to 22 hours per day.

What Clear Aligners Can Fix

Clear aligners handle a surprisingly wide range of orthodontic issues:

  • Gaps between teeth: Spaces that create aesthetic concerns or trap food particles close up gradually as aligners bring teeth together.
  • Crowding: Overlapping or twisted teeth that compete for space get repositioned into proper alignment without extractions in many cases.
  • Overbites: Upper teeth that extend too far over lower teeth can be corrected to improve both function and appearance.
  • Underbites: Lower teeth that sit in front of upper teeth respond well to aligner therapy in mild to moderate cases.
  • Crossbites: Individual teeth or sections where upper teeth sit inside lower teeth get shifted into correct positioning.

That said, clear aligners aren’t suitable for every situation. Severe misalignment, significant bite problems, or teeth that need substantial rotation might require traditional braces or other orthodontic approaches. A thorough evaluation determines whether clear aligners in Dallas will achieve the results you’re after or if a different treatment makes more sense for your specific case.

The Treatment Process From Start to Finish

Your first appointment involves examining your teeth, discussing what bothers you about your current alignment, and determining if clear aligners are appropriate. If you’re a good candidate, digital scans capture precise measurements of your teeth and bite. These scans go to a lab where technicians create your custom aligners and map out your entire treatment plan.

Once your aligners arrive, you’ll come in to pick up your first several sets and get instructions on proper wear and care. You’ll also learn about attachments—small, tooth-colored bumps that sometimes get bonded to certain teeth to help the aligners grip better and move teeth more effectively. These attachments are barely noticeable but significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Follow-up appointments happen every six to eight weeks so your dentist can monitor your progress and give you the next batch of aligners. These check-ins ensure everything is moving according to plan and allow for adjustments if needed. The total treatment time varies based on your individual case, but most people finish within 12 to 18 months.

Daily Life With Clear Aligners

Eating and Drinking

One of the main appeals of clear aligners is how little they interfere with your normal routine. You can eat whatever you want because you remove the aligners before meals—no avoiding popcorn, apples, or sticky foods like you would with braces. Just take them out, enjoy your food, brush your teeth, and put the aligners back in.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning your teeth is straightforward since nothing is permanently attached. You brush and floss normally, then rinse your aligners and pop them back in. The aligners themselves need regular cleaning to prevent buildup and discoloration. Rinsing them whenever you remove them and brushing them gently with a soft toothbrush keeps them clear and fresh. Avoid hot water, which can warp the plastic and ruin the fit.

Adjusting to Aligners

Some people worry about speech issues, but most adjust within a day or two of wearing their first set. You might notice a slight lisp initially, but it fades quickly as your mouth gets used to the sensation. Mild discomfort or pressure when you switch to a new set of aligners is normal and actually indicates the treatment is working—your teeth are moving.

Why Choose Clear Aligners in Dallas Over Braces?

The aesthetic advantage is obvious. Clear aligners are nearly invisible, so most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them unless you mention it. This matters for professionals who deal with clients face-to-face, adults who feel self-conscious about metal braces, or anyone who simply prefers a more discreet option.

The convenience factor is equally significant. No emergency trips to fix broken brackets or poking wires. No lengthy cleaning sessions, trying to navigate around hardware. No food restrictions. You remove the aligners, eat, brush, and put them back in. It’s that simple.

Dr. Travis Aduddell did an amazing job extracting my seven-year-old daughter’s teeth! He and his assistant kept her calm throughout the entire process and they even had her laughing during the procedure. He also checked-in to see how she was doing later in the day. Dr. Aduddell and his team truly treated us like family!

The wife and had to find a new dentist closer to where we live now. we stumbled onto Dr. Aduddell while we where visiting our chiropractor in the same building. Hands down the best dentist i had ever been to in my life and he is very high tech. some dentists still use that big arse light that blinds the patient while they work. not Dr. Travis he has one of those on head lights so it only shows where he is looking and not blinding the patient. they go over everything with you before they start so there is no surprise charges like some dentists give you at the end. the best part about Dr. Aduddell is how he takes pride in his work. you know those people as they are doing their job the talk to themselves like "that is perfect", "i could not have done that any better" stuff like that. well that is Dr Travis. while i was getting a cavity fixed i was calm the whole time because he was saying those things to himself. how can you not be calm if the doctor has that much pride in his work he grades himself as he is working. My wife has yet to have her follow up visit but i told her she will love it so she is calm now before she even goes. LOL

I can’t say enough about Dr. Aduddell. I had a new crown and two filling replaced today and I can honestly say I’ve never had such a wonderful experience. First I have to say the front office people were friendly, professional, and timely. I then had the pleasure of having Dr. Aduddell talk to me about what he would be doing along with answering my questions. Afterwards his wonderful assistant, Maria, helped me get comfortable for my procedure. Warm blanket, sun glasses, music of my choice using sound blocking headset, then that wonderful nitros oxide gas to take the edge off. After that Dr. Aduddell did his magic. Yes it was magic. I still can’t figure out how he did it but I never felt a shot. Not once. Not even a pinch. Two fillings and a crown later I was asking if I could stay. I told his staff and his assistant it was like having a spa day!! I have to clarify that I’m 66 years old and have had several crowns and cavities filled throughout my life. This is the first pain free dental experience I’ve ever had that involves numbing and shots. I would definitely recommend Dr. Aduddell to anyone looking for a dentist that is caring and is great at what he does. If you want someone that is kind and attentive to your dental needs you can’t go wrong with Dr. Aduddell and his staff of amazing wonderful people.
